Google guarantees two more months of security updates for Nexus 6P and 5X
Google guarantees that the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will receive security updates for two months longer than previously indicated. The support period was supposed to end in September 2018, which will now be November 2018.
With this, the phones get a little more than three years of guaranteed support from Google, according to Google’s support page. An archived version of the page shows that on Sunday it said support would end in September 2018. These are guaranteed updates; Google may choose to release updates for longer.
It is only an extension of the warranty for security updates. The search giant maintains that Android 8.0 will be the last upgrade for the devices. The Nexus 5X and 6P came on the market in the fall of 2015.
Google invariably promises two years of upgrades to new versions of operating systems for its phones, while the security updates will remain for three years. The American company has not said why it has extended support for the two Nexus phones by a few months.
