Google gives money back up to 14 days after purchasing service via Play Store
Since Wednesday, it has been possible for European users to cancel the purchase and get the money back up to fourteen days after purchasing a service via the Google Play Store. The rule does not apply to apps and movies or subscription services to them.
The rule only applies in the European Economic Area and Google therefore complies with the right of withdrawal. This means that customers who order a service online have two weeks to change their mind. Requesting a refund is possible through the order history of a Google account.
Google sets out the rules on its support website and cites as an example customers who purchase a subscription to a storage service via the Play Store. The rule does not apply to apps or subscriptions to digital content such as movies and music. When purchasing such a subscription, customers agree that the content is immediately available and the right of withdrawal lapses.
The existing rule continues to apply to apps in Europe: within two hours of purchase it is possible to return an app and get a refund. Films can be returned up to seven days after purchase, provided the buyer has not yet started watching.
