Google gives G Suite administrators a warning option for government attacks

Google has made a feature available to G Suite administrators that gives them the ability to receive a warning that users’ accounts are the target of attacks by governments.

In the announcement of the feature, Google writes that such a warning will be sent if it believes that state hackers are attempting to take over a particular account, for example through phishing or malware. A warning would not mean that an account has actually been taken over. The feature is off by default.

For example, if administrators enable the feature, they can set who receives an alert. After receiving a warning, they can also choose to take action, for example by providing the relevant account with additional security measures. Since 2012, Google has been warning users if it believes a government attack is taking place.
