Google enables unlocking of Pixel 6a bootloader with update

Google is going to enable unlocking of the bootloader on the Pixel 6a via a software update. Shortly after delivery, there was no option available to do that, but the first over-the-air update is bringing that capability to the phones.

The Pixel 6a is now being delivered to the first preorder customers in countries such as America. On forums like that from XDA users noticed that the device’s bootloader could not be unlocked. This occurs with telephones that are delivered in America via the provider. In the Developer Options menu, the OEM unlock button is grayed out and unavailable.

google now says to Android Police that it will fix that problem in an upcoming software update. That over-the-air update is out now and will be released to all users in the next week, depending on their carriers. That update makes the bootloader unlockable everywhere. The company doesn’t write that in the patch notes and it’s not clear if it’s a bug or if the unavailability was planned.
