Google Earth will allow users to upload ‘travel report’ in the future
Google Earth will allow users to upload their own ‘travel report’ in the next two to three years. These stories can make users public or keep them private, a top woman of the search giant told Reuters news agency.
The intention is that the travel reports correspond to the format of the professional ‘voyagers’ that have now appeared in Earth, Google’s Rebecca Moore explains to Reuters. This may include text, photos, and videos that users can add to a particular location.
This allows users to add their own ‘voyagers’. Google introduced this last spring. Users can use this to view interactive tours that are accompanied by recorded texts from scientists, for example. For example, six special nature locations from BBC Earth episodes can be seen and the Gombe National Park in Tanzania can be viewed in which the voice of Jane Goodall talks about her research into chimpanzees.
In total, more than fifty such stories have been incorporated into the new version of Google Earth. These stories are accompanied by, among other things, 360-degree videos and images from the street view perspective. Google will not pre-process travelers’ stories, Moore reports. The search giant wants to add the feature within three years.
