Google Daydream View glasses will be on sale in Germany from November 10
The Google Daydream View will be available for purchase from November 10. The VR glasses made of fabric will not yet appear in the Benelux, but will be sold in Germany for 69 euros. To use the glasses, a smartphone with Android 7.1 and Daydream support is required.
Google announces the sale date in a blog and gives many examples where the Daydream View can be used. There will be special Daydream videos on YouTube, it is possible to watch Street View in VR, the Wall Street Journal is making an app that is compatible with the VR glasses and many games are appearing. EA comes with Need For Speed: No Limits VR, among other things.
The glasses weigh 220 grams and are made of fabric, which should make them comfortable to wear. The accessory works with all Daydream-enabled phones, including Google’s Pixel smartphones. The software platform that belongs to Daydream is in Android 7.1, that version is currently only available on the Pixel smartphones.
Unlike the Gear VR from Samsung, for example, there are no sensors in the Daydream View headset. Google does supply a controller, which contains sensors that can determine the position of the user’s hand. The controller is equipped with a 220mAh battery, which should last up to twelve hours. The controller can be charged via the USB-C connection.
In Germany, the Daydream View is for sale in Deutsche Telekom stores. In the UK, the glasses can be purchased at EE and Carphone Warehouse locations for £69. The United States, Canada and Australia are the other countries where the glasses will go on sale immediately upon release on November 10. It is not yet known when Google will bring the Daydream View to the Benelux.
