‘Google comes with Chromecast Audio for speakers’

Google is said to be planning to release a separate version of the Chromecast that is intended to connect to speakers. This gives them support for wireless content playback, which makes it possible to have multiple speakers work together.

Details have already come out of a new Chromecast with improved WiFi and new features, but now it appears that Google is also working on a separate device for speakers, according to the usually well-informed 9to5Google. The site has an image of the device, but this provides little clarity about the housing. This Chromecast Audio could be connected to a speaker via a 3.5mm connection, making it ‘Wi-Fi enabled’. This makes it possible to play content wirelessly.

It would also be possible to have multiple speakers work together. It is then probably necessary to connect a Chromecast Audio per speaker, after which they can be controlled together; that makes it possible to play the same audio on all connected speakers. Sound could be transmitted in ‘high quality’, although it is unclear what exactly is meant by this. There would also be support for Spotify.

The new Chromecast Audio will probably be launched at the same time as the new version of the ‘regular’ Chromecast. Google has planned an event on September 29 where new hardware will be announced, making it likely that the new Chromecasts will also make an appearance.
