Google closes hosted-part Pagespeed service

Google is shutting down its online service PageSpeed, which website owners could use to reduce the loading times of their web pages. Users can no longer log in since May 5. The plug will be pulled on 3 August.

Google warns that website owners who still use the hosted part of PageSpeed ​​should migrate their site in a timely manner. When the service closes on August 3, sites still using PageSpeed ​​will become inaccessible. Plugins that use PageSpeed ​​technology will continue to work; only the web service goes offline. Google has posted instructions online on how people can migrate their site, as well as suggestions for similar services.

PageSpeed ​​was introduced four and a half years ago. By logging into the online service, users were able to speed up their web pages. The service automatically applied a number of measures to reduce loading times. Static parts of the site were cached on Google servers. In addition, web pages were automatically rewritten. Javascript, stylesheets and image files were merged where possible, while the service also made adjustments to retrieve page elements in a more parallel way. The service was also able to automatically prioritize the loading of the parts of the site that are at the top, so that they are visible first in the browser.
