Google Chrome pushes update warning to Windows XP and Vista users

Google has started warning users who are running Chrome on a computer with Windows XP or Vista. When starting the browser, a message is shown that support will end soon.

As of April 2016, Google will stop releasing updates and patches for vulnerabilities in the versions of Chrome for Windows XP and Vista. Anyone currently using these operating systems in combination with Google’s browser will now see a warning. The message can be clicked away, but will appear again the next time the browser is started.

Initially, Google was supposed to stop releasing updates in April 2015, but that date was postponed several times. At the same time, Google will also stop supporting OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8. In all cases, except for Windows Vista, these are operating systems that no longer receive support from their maker.
