Google changes interface Maps on Android
Google is in the process of changing the UI of its Maps app on Android. The menu on the left side of the screen disappears in favor of extra options under the profile picture and extra tabs at the bottom of the screen.
This is a server-side change, so users cannot invoke it themselves, reports El Androide Libre. The ‘hamburger menu’ disappears with the new interface. The For You tab disappears from the bottom, in favor of saved places options and an option to post your own reviews and other stuff.
Many of the options are now also in the menu that users can access by clicking on their own profile picture, Android Police reports. Some options are also missing now, including to report missing places to Google.
Presumably, Google is making the change to be able to remove the side menu. It gets in the way of gesture navigation on Android 10, because it works with gestures from the left or right side. With the same gesture, users open the current side menu in Google Maps.
