Google buys Twitter division that makes developer tools
Google has bought a division of Twitter. With the acquisition, the search giant has acquired Fabric, a set of tools for developers including analytics, crash reports and the Digits system for logging in with SMS.
Fabric’s developers will partner with Firebase, Google says. That falls under the Developer Product Group at the search giant. Twitter presented Fabric in 2014 as a modular SDK for developers with tools. That is in line with what Firebase does, a start-up that ended up at Google through an acquisition in 2014.
With the acquisition, Twitter probably wants to make its organization smaller and thus control costs. The social medium wants to earn more and spend less in the near future to keep its head above water in the long term. How much Google pays for Fabric is unknown.
