Google buys startup Ångströ

Google has strengthened itself with the company Ångströ. The American firm makes tools to collect data from various social networking sites. It is not known what amount the internet giant paid for the incorporation of the startup.

On his blog, Rohit Kare, co-founder of Ångströ know that he is going to work for Google. It is unknown whether his colleague Salim Ismail will also work at the search giant. It is also not clear what Kare will do at Google, although there are persistent rumors that the company is working on a competitor for the social networking site Facebook; a project for which Kare could be used. google left told The New York Times that it has acquired Ångströ, but made no statements about Kare’s future work.

Ångströ was founded in 2007 by Kare and Ismail, with the aim of gathering relevant search results, especially from social networking sites. The company has built several tools for this, including a ‘social’ address book, which makes it possible to bundle profile information from social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Flickr.

In recent months, Google has acquired a series of companies active in the social networking site market; recently, the company bought developer Slider for $182 million. Also the companies jambool and Aardvark were taken over by the internet giant. Furthermore, Google probably invested more than 100 million dollars in game maker Zynga, which is known for the game Farmville on Facebook.
