Google Announces Third-Party Business Docking Stations for Chromebooks
Google has certified docking stations from 27 manufacturers in the Works With program for Chromebook. The docking stations are developed for Chromebooks, work with Chrome OS and will receive automatic firmware updates in the future.
Google writes this in a blog post for business customers. The new docking stations from Targus, Hyper, Acer and Belkin, among others, fall under the Works With Chromebook program. That is an ecosystem focused on validating and supporting third-party devices that work with Chromebooks. Third party devices will receive a special Works With Chromebook sticker to show they are supported and tested. Other devices under this program include chargers, cables and dongles, mice and keyboards. But also external hard drives and headsets.
The docking stations announced now will receive automatic firmware updates to keep them working with Chrome OS. There are two types of docking stations. Larger ones that can connect up to three displays via HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C and smaller ones that can connect a single HDMI display. All docking stations also work for Windows and and macOS laptops.
Targus has announced two docking stations within the Works With Chromebook program. Hyper releases three docks. The largest has fourteen ports for 4K playback at 60Hz via HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C, and with Gigabit Ethernet and USB-A 3.1 GEN2 and 2.0. This should come on the market for 198 euros.
