Google announces Duo app for Android TV
Google has announced an app for its Duo video service for its Android TV platform. Until now, the video calling service was not available on the search giant’s TV platform. A beta will be released in the coming weeks.
Users can start a video call from the app, and if the TV doesn’t have a built-in webcam, they can do so via a plugged-in USB webcam, Google says. The final app will probably be released after the beta, but it is unknown when that will be.
Google also says nothing about support on TV platforms other than Android TV. Google notes that Duo also works with smart speakers with screens like the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max. Last week, the search giant said that Meet users can chromecast video conferencing to TVs. No webcam on the TV is required. Google uses the camera, microphone and audio of the computer used; only the video part is cast to the television.
