Google: Android Nougat updates for Nexus 6 and 9 LTE coming in a few weeks
The updates to Android 7.0 Nougat for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE from 2014 will come in a few weeks. That’s what Google said. It is still unknown why the search giant is releasing the update for some of its devices much later.
Google does not give a specific date to Android Police, but assures that the updates will start ‘in a few weeks’. The search giant released Android 7.0 almost a month ago for newer devices like the Nexus 5X and 6P, but the updates for the Nexus 6 and 9 LTE have so far been lacking. The Nexus 6 and 9 LTE both came out in 2014. The Nexus 9 with only WiFi already has the update.
It’s unknown why the updates are taking longer, but Android Police speculate that there may be bugs in the update that Google wants to squash before pushing the update to users. It is already possible to run Android 7.0 via a developer preview. The first developer preview was released in March.
The Motorola-built Nexus 6 and the HTC-manufactured Nexus 9 LTE are the oldest devices for which Google is releasing an update. The Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 will not get the update and will be stuck on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
