Google and LG release Stadia app on TVs with webOS 5.0 or later
The Google Stadia streaming app has been made available for LG smart TVs running WebOS 5.0 or later. This app makes it possible for owners of such televisions to use the Stadia service without external hardware.
The app is immediately available for download for the supported models via the LG Content Store, the television manufacturer reports. The TV models with WebOS 5.0 were introduced in 2020. Televisions with WebOS 6.0 are from this year. Higher OS versions are currently not available. For this, LG users needed external hardware, such as the Google Chromecast, to use the Stadia service.
The Google Stadia app allows users to stream a library of more than two hundred games. Unlike streaming services such as Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Now, you have to pay per game. A Stadia Pro subscription can be purchased for 10 euros per month, in which users receive a discount on games and a number of games ‘free’ every month. Also, only users with a Pro subscription can stream in 4k and with 5.1 surround sound. To play games via this service, users need a supported controller.
LG already announced in January that Google Stadia will be available on its TVs this year. Then the television manufacturer also promised that the streaming service GeForce Now would become available. That promise was fulfilled last month.
