Google adjusts Chrome icon

Google will change the icon of its browser Chrome in the coming months. The differences are small, but visible. The icon will look slightly different per operating system, writes a Google designer.

The blue circle in the center is slightly larger, while the shadows at the edges of the colors disappear, writes Elvin Hu† The colors have a gradient to prevent clashing at the edges, making the logo more accessible.

There are also differences by operating system. For example, the Windows version has slightly less bright colors than the Chrome OS version. On macOS, it is also a version with a 3D design, something that is missing on other operating systems. Developer versions are also getting a new icon. For example, on iOS it is blue, which is in line with Apple’s apps for developers.

It is the first new icon design for Chrome in eight years and the fourth icon for the browser since the first version in 2008. The new design will be visible to users from the coming months, the designer says.
