Google adds WebGL 2.0 support to Chrome
Google has introduced support for WebGL 2.0 in its Chrome browser. WebGL 2.0 is available in Chrome versions 56 and above. This should allow web graphics that use this standard to perform better and give developers more options.
On its blog, Google says that WebGL 2.0 has already been made available to users of Chrome 56 and higher, for Windows, Linux and the Mac. With version 2.0 of the graphics standard, the performance of web graphics should be improved. Developers will also get more extensive tools for creating graphics, bringing WebGL 2.0 to the same level as the widely used OpenGL ES 3.0.
WebGL 2.0 will also be available for Chrome on Android. A release date has not been announced, but according to Google, the necessary software update would be implemented soon. Mozilla already came with WebGL 2.0 support in version 51 of Firefox; that version came out early this year. Opera also already has support for the improved web graphics standard.
Earlier, Google already made improvements for version 57 of Chrome by reducing the background activity of tabs. This should improve the battery life.
