Google adds option to turn off ‘reminder ads’

Google has added an option to its preferences to stop showing ‘reminder ads’. These are advertisements from web stores where internet users have once been and viewed a certain product. These kinds of ads are supposed to persuade people to buy that product.

There will be an option in the Google Ads settings to stop seeing those ads, the search giant reports. If users are annoyed by a certain ‘reminder ad’, they can turn it off there and it will no longer appear.

In addition, Google will sync settings for Mute This Ad, a feature that stops showing an ad when users indicate it, between devices set up with the same Google account. Anyone who clicks on Mute This Ad on mobile with an advertisement will no longer see it in the browser on the desktop. The settings should give users more control over which ads the search giant shows them.

The options will work soon. That is not yet the case. The ad settings page has been around since 2013, before it was known as Ad Preferences Manager.
