Google adds multi-room sync to Cast speakers Cast
Google is adding multi-room synchronization to Google Cast, the protocol used by Chromecast dongles. In addition, more speaker manufacturers are integrating the protocol into their new speakers.
With the multi-room synchronization in Google Cast, users can play the same song through speakers from different brands, provided they all support Cast, Google explains. Cast support can come through manufacturer integration or plugging in the Chromecast Audio, the dongle for speaker systems that the search giant released last fall. Google added a multi-room option to the Chromecast Audio before, but it didn’t work yet. on other speakers with Cast.
The speaker makers that will integrate Cast into new products are B&O Play, Harman Kardon, Onkyo, Philips, Pioneer and Raumfeld. Sony and LG have been making products with Cast since last year and have also announced new speakers with Cast integration that will be released this year. Google introduced Cast a year ago.
