Google has added medical information to the Knowledge Graph in the US. According to the search giant, internet users can quickly request information about certain diseases and ailments. The information is said to have been screened by several medics.

In a medical-related search, the information shows, among other things, the symptoms of a certain disease or condition, the possible treatment methods and how often a certain disease occurs. Relevant medical illustrations are also shown in certain cases.

Google says by providing this medical information it is responding to the need of users to quickly get an idea of a condition or disease. According to the search giant, an average of one in twenty searches entered is of a medical nature.

To guarantee the reliability of the information, the search giant claims that all information has been collected, compiled and screened by a team of medical professionals. A clinic would also have checked the information shown for any inaccuracies. Nevertheless, Google emphasizes that individuals should not regard the information as personalized medical advice and that if in doubt, they should always contact a doctor.

The new information in Knowledge Graph will initially only be available in English, but Google is keeping the option open to offer it in other languages in the future.
