Google has announced Daydream 2.0, nicknamed Euphrates. The platform for mobile VR will be expanded with, among other things, the possibility to cast VR images to a TV. In addition, the Chrome browser is coming to the platform.

Google announced new VR and AR functionality during the second day of Google I/O. With version 2.0 of Daydream, the VR view gets a new dashboard to see notifications, among other things. Wearers of VR glasses can take screenshots and record clips and share them with others.

In addition, they can cast their image to TVs so that others can see what the VR wearer sees. Daydream 2.0 will also receive the Chrome browser this summer, which can be called up within virtual environments, for example to watch videos or run web apps based on WebVR. In addition, Google is working on integrating augmented reality in Chromium.

The platform also offers improvements for developers. They get the Instant Preview feature, to see changes they make on their computer displayed on headsets within seconds. Until now, according to Google, that took minutes. In addition, the group promises that with the Seurat technology, graphics at ‘desktop level’ will be possible on VR with mobile GPUs. Google is partnering with LucasFilm’s ILMxLAB for this, which is developing a virtual Star Wars: Rogue One environment for VR.
