Google: 70 million students use Chrome OS
70 million students worldwide use Chrome OS. This has been announced by a product manager at Google. This means that the use of the six-year-old OS appears to be increasing significantly at schools and universities.
Chrome’s senior director of product management reveals 70 million Chrome OS users to Time. A year ago, Google reported that 20 million students were using Chromebooks. In 2015, that was 10 million Chromebook users. Google is now talking specifically about using Chrome OS and not about Chromebooks.
There are more devices that run Chrome OS, such as the Asus Chromebit, but they are probably hardly used. The share of Chrome OS is almost entirely taken up by Chromebooks. More likely, the huge increase can be explained by the fact that more and more students in schools are creating accounts on the same Chromebooks in classes.
In recent years, Google has focused on the educational market with its Chromebooks. Earlier this year, the company announced that its G Suite for Education has more than 70 million users. G Suite for Education consists of apps such as Google Docs and Gmail, complemented by the Classroom platform for collaboration.
