Game distribution platform GOG.com started with ‘Games in Development’. This program is similar to Steam’s Early Access, in which users can purchase games before those games are fully developed.

GOG.com has announced that it will source its own games for the Games in Development program. In that it differs from the comparable Steam Early Access. The selection is made on the basis of which games are the most promising and which games appear most on the community wishlist. The first five games for the program are Starbound, Ashes of the Singularity, Project Zomboid, TerraTech, and The Curious Expedition.

For the program, GOG recommends its own Galaxy client. Using the client, updates can be selected manually and an older version can also be restored. Snapshots are taken of the games in development during development, making it possible to go back to earlier moments in development. At Games in Development, users can always get their money back within two weeks without giving a reason. In addition, just like the other GOG games, the games remain free of DRM.
