GitHub blocked again in Russia

GitHub seems to be blocked again by Russian providers. They would do this at the behest of the Russian government. GitHub would not remove any text describing suicide methods.

The Russian text was posted to GitHub in March and led to a short-lived blockage of the site in early October. The blockade was then lifted because the text deleted would become. However, the original text is still on GitHub and since the blockade in October, the text has also been put on the website by other users.

The blockade was set up by the Roskomnadzor, the Russian authority for Communications, Information Technology and Media. The head of the organization, Maxim Ksenzor, let via twitter know that GitHub has been blocked for disregarding its organization’s demands. While the requirements affect a few specific pages on GitHub, the entire site has been blocked. Because the website uses https, it would not be possible for providers to block specific pages.
