Gionee presents phone with curved OLED screen and 7000mAh battery
The Chinese smartphone maker Gionee has presented a smartphone with a curved 5.7″ OLED screen, dual camera and two batteries of both 3500mAh, making a total battery capacity of 7000mAh available in the phone.
The two batteries do make for a thicker phone than usual. The Gionee M2017 measures 155.2×77.6×10.78mm. That is considerably thicker than many recent smartphones, even models with a relatively thick battery. The P2 of the also Chinese Lenovo, for example, is 8.3 mm thick and has a 5100 mAh battery. The M2017 weighs 238 grams.
The device runs on Android 6.0 with Gionee’s own Android release Amigo OS over it. The 5.7″ OLED screen is curved on both sides, like the Edge devices from Samsung and the BlackBerry Priv from last year. The display has a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels.
Gionee has equipped the device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 soc. The Snapdragon 653 has four Cortex A72 cores at 1.95GHz and four lower clocked Cortex A53 cores for lighter work, assisted by an Adreno 510 GPU. The manufacturer has added 6GB of lpddr3 memory. The storage is 128 GB.
To distinguish the phone from other models, Gionee has opted for a design that, according to the manufacturer, should radiate luxury, including the use of leather on the back. The M2017 will not work optimally in the Benelux. The smartphone does not support all 4g frequencies used here. The phone is currently only available in China with a suggested retail price of 6999 yuan, which is currently about 965 euros.
