Gigabyte introduces P104 accelerator for mining cryptocoins
Gigabyte has announced the GV-NP104D5X-4G, a cryptocurrency mining accelerator. The card has a P104-100 GPU from Nvidia on board, which is based on the GP104 GPU, which forms the basis of the GeForce GTX 1070.
Gigabyte combines the P104-100 G4 with 4GB gddr5x and its Windforce 3x cooler with three fans and three copper heatpipes. The P104-100 GPU has 1920 cudacores and Gigabyte has set the core clock to 1607MHz with Boost to 1733MHz. The GPU thus has the number of cudacores of the GPU of the GTX 1070, but the clock speeds of that of the GTX 1080. The card draws power via a single 8 pin connector and Gigabyte calls a ‘tgp’ of 180W to 225W, where unknown is what the ‘g’ stands for.
In addition, half the memory of the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 is present. Nvidia introduced its GPUs for crypto mining at the end of June. Then accelerator cards based on the P106-100, the GPU that is also in the GTX 1060, appeared. Only recently have cards with the P104-100 been released, such as recently that of Inno3D.
