Gigabyte has released two motherboards that are equipped with an AMD AM1 socket. That makes them suitable for single Kabini apus, which are said to be available in March. So far AMD’s Kabini has only appeared as a soldered apu.

Gigabytes AM1M-S2P and AM1M-S2H motherboards are built around the AMD AM1 socket in a micro-atx form factor. Both boards can accommodate two DDR3 memory bars and are made of PCI-E 2.0 x16, PCI-E x1, two USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet and S/PDIF. The S2P version also has a parallel lpt port and a serial com port, while the S2H has HDMI and a second PCI-e x1 interface.

Gigabyte’s boards are among the first to feature AMD’s AM1 socket. This is the socket that supports separate Kabini APUs and which will soon also have to accommodate the successor Beema. So far, the frugal Kabini has only appeared soldered to the FS1b socket in laptops, motherboards and mini PCs. Kabini can be seen as AMD’s competitor to Intel’s Bay Trail for these segments. In January, VR-Zone already announced that new separate Kabini dual-cores and quad-cores based on Jaguar cores and with a TDP of 25W should be released in March.
