Gigabyte introduces external 1TB SSD with speeds of up to 2GB / s

Gigabyte introduces its first external SSD. The Vision Drive has a storage capacity of 1TB and a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface. According to the manufacturer, the SSD achieves sequential read and write speeds of up to 2GB / s. Gigabyte does not yet mention a suggested retail price.

Gigabyte provides the external Vision Drive SSD with a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface. This interface theoretically offers transfer rates of up to 20Gbit / s. Gigabyte claims its Vision Drive SSD achieves sequential read and write speeds of up to 2GB / s. The SSD is made up of tlc-nand memory, a Phison E12 controller and 1GB of DDR cache. Gigabyte provides the drive with a 5-year or 1600TBW warranty. The external SSD contains a regular PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD of the M.2 format, according to a press release and images on the manufacturer’s website.

The SSD measures 115mmx72mm and is 20mm thick. Furthermore, Gigabyte claims that the SSD is shock resistant up to a drop of up to 1.22 meters. For the time being, only a 1TB variant will be available. Gigabyte also comes with an upgrade kit, which also includes a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2-PCIe expansion card. The manufacturer does not yet mention a release date or recommended prices.
