Gigabyte has announced its Aorus CO49DQ gaming monitor. This superwide screen has a diagonal of 49 inches and a QD OLED panel with a resolution of 5120×1440 pixels. According to the manufacturer, the screen uses ‘an AI algorithm’ to prevent burn-in.

The Gigabyte Aorus CO49DQ has a refresh rate of 144Hz and a 1800R curvature, which means that the curve of the curvature corresponds to that of a circle with a radius of 1800mm. Gigabyte also advertises a GTG response time of 0.03ms. According to the manufacturer, the screen supports 10bit colors, receives a DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification and has AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.

Gigabyte also writes that the screen uses an ‘AI algorithm’ to prevent burn-in, in the form of ‘OLED Care’. However, the manufacturer does not share any details about how it works. The manual does mention a function called Care+, which should apply various maintenance functions for the OLED panel.

In the manual For example, individual OLED functions such as pixel shift and sub-logo dim are also mentioned. With the former, the content on the screen is occasionally shifted by a few pixels to prevent image retention. The second feature reduces the brightness of logos and, for example, the Windows taskbar for the same reason. Gigabyte does not make it clear to what extent the advertised AI algorithm is involved. Many other OLED screens have similar features against burn-in.

The Aorus CO49DQ also has two HDMI 2.1 connections and a DisplayPort 1.4 connection. The screen also has a USB-C connection with support for 18W power delivery and DisplayPort Alt Mode for transmitting an image signal. There are also two USB 3.2 type A ports, which function as a hub via a USB 3.2 type B upstream connection. The screen also has built-in speakers, a 3.5mm jack for audio and a 100×100 VESA mount for using alternative monitor arms. It is not known exactly what the screen will cost.
