According to Gigabyte, AMD will introduce new ‘next-gen’ AM5 APUs at the end of January 2024. According to previous rumors, these are Phoenix 2 APUs with a hybrid chip design. Gigabyte also says it has released a beta BIOS for those upcoming APUs.

The motherboard maker released the beta BIOS last week, which is based on AMD’s 1.1.0.0-Agesa software and confirms now that it is suitable for the next generation of AM5 APUs, which will be introduced at the end of January. Gigabyte says it will release the stable version of the Agesa 1.1.0.0 bios software at the end of November. ASUS and ASRock have also released beta bios based on Agesa 1.1.0.0.

According to previous rumors, AMD is working on desktop APUs with a hybrid architecture with Zen 4 and Zen 4c cores. Those Zen 4c cores have a lower clock speed and can therefore perform simpler tasks more efficiently. AMD released laptop CPUs with hybrid architecture earlier this month. The Zen 4c cores here are smaller than the regular Zen 4 cores and have lower clock speed limits. Furthermore, the cores are identical. Intel has been using a hybrid architecture for some time, although there is more difference between the Performance and Efficiency cores.
