German court rules Amazon Dash buttons violate the law

The Dash buttons, which allow the purchase of a certain product at the touch of a button, do not comply with German law. That has been decided by a court. Customers would not be sufficiently informed about the price they have to pay.

The case was brought by a German consumer organization, Reuters news agency reported. He was of the opinion that consumers are not sufficiently informed when purchasing products via the Dash buttons, because the price of the product in question cannot be seen. The German court agreed with that reasoning, which means that Amazon’s Dash buttons do not comply with the law.

In a response to Reuters, an Amazon spokesperson said he disagrees with the ruling. This would impede innovation, and the spokesperson also points out that consumers can decide for themselves whether they want to use Dash buttons or not.

It is also unclear what Amazon will do with the ruling. It is possible that it will no longer offer the Dash buttons in Germany, or will change it to show the price of the product in question.
