Genshin Impact gets PlayStation 5 version on April 28
Action RPG Genshin Impact will receive a major update on April 28. Version 1.5 is titled Beneath the Light of Jadeite and adds new enemies among other things. At the same time, a PS5 version of the game will be released, with better textures and faster loading times.
At the end of last year there was already an update for Genshin Impact that allows the game to be played on the PlayStation 5 at 60fps, but that was still about the PS4 version. With the new update, which will be released at the end of April, a native PlayStation 5 version of the game will be available. It runs in 4k resolution, gets improved textures and faster loading times, Sony says.
Genshin Impact is a free open world action RPG, available for PlayStation 4 and 5, PC, Android and iOS. A Switch version is also in the works, but it is not yet known when it will be released. The game from the Chinese developer miHoYo is reminiscent of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild because of the use of cel shaded graphics.
The game is free to play but includes in-game purchases. Better fighters, weapons and items can be obtained with this. It is not necessary to buy it to make progress and it is largely a single player game. There is a co-op mode in which up to four players can play together.
Despite this, the game makes a lot of money. In the first two weeks after the release, the developer already raised $100 million, according to analysts. According to SensorTower, that has risen to more than a billion dollars in less than six months for the mobile version alone. Screenrant estimates that the game has about 40 million players across all platforms.
