GeForce Now Adds Support for 1600p Resolution on Many Macbooks
Nvidia has announced that it will support the 1600p resolution of many MacBooks in its game streaming service GeForce Now. Until now, users with those MacBooks have been forced to stick to a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels and 16:9 ratio.
The resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio is very common on MacBook models with a screen diagonal of 13.3 “and is 2560 by 1600 pixels to be precise. It is not entirely clear from the announcement by Nvidia whether this resolution is exclusive Nvidia has been limiting certain resolutions to certain devices for some time, for example on the subscription page you can read that the Shield TV supports 4k with HDR and that all other devices have to do with the same subscription with 1440p without HDR.
For these resolutions, gamers need Nvidia’s most expensive subscription: the RTX 3080 variant, which costs 99.99 euros per 6 months. The cheaper Priority plan costs 49.99 per 6 months and offers up to 1080p and 60fps output, among other things.
Nvidia also announces that it has improved integration with Ubisoft Connect, reducing the need for sign-ins. In addition, there is a fix for streams with the wrong aspect ratio on the Apple MacBook Pro M1 Max. Nvidia has had native M1 support for some time now.
