Nvidia is said to be planning to release the GeForce GTX 880 and GTX 870 in October or November. Both desktop video cards would have Maxwell GPUs of a new generation. They may get additional arm cores.

The new GeForce GTX 800 cards will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2014, as reported by SweClockers, which has a proven track record of reliable sources in the hardware industry. The GPUs would still be produced at 28nm, just like the current generation and the type designation would be GM204.

According to VideoCardz, these are cards that are equipped with additional arm cores. Nvidia would have stopped the development of GM100 GPUs and focus entirely on the GM200 models. The video chips for the GeForce GTX 880 and GTX 870 aren’t the first Maxwell-based ones: Nvidia already released the GTX 750 and GTX 750 Ti with Maxwell chips, but those were mainstream cards. The upcoming models concern high-end video cards. Some laptop GPUs in the 800M series are already based on the new economical architecture.
