Gearbox Announces PS5 Game Godfall Coming Late 2020
Godfall is the first game officially announced for the PS5. The game is being developed by Counterplay and published by Borderlands creator Gearbox. The game will be released at the end of 2020. A PC version will also be available through the Epic Games Store.
Godfall was first shown at the Game Awards. The game will be released at the end of 2020 and as far as consoles are concerned, it will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. The upcoming console should also come out around that time. This makes it the first PS5 game to be officially announced. The trailer consists entirely of in-engine footage and thus presumably offers a small taste of the graphics performance of the upcoming console.
The game is being developed by Counterplay, which consists of former developers of Call of Duty, Destiny 2, God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn, Polygon writes. The game is published by Gearbox Publishing. In addition to the PS5, the game will also be released on PC via the Epic Games Store. Gearbox tells Eurogamer that the game will not be released on PS4 and that the PC version of the game will remain available exclusively through the Epic Games Store for at least 12 months. After that, the game could eventually appear on other PC platforms.
In the CGI trailer, three characters are shown in full costume. These heroes flee from a collapsing building. Godfall, according to the developer, is a third-person action game with “real-time melee combat” and a focus on accumulating in-game loot. The game takes place in a new ‘universe’ and is being developed in Unreal Engine 4. The game can be played in single player mode, but according to the developer the game is ‘better with friends’.
