Gearbox adds microtransactions to Battleborn
Gearbox will release an update for Battleborn on Thursday that adds microtransactions to the game. Players can purchase Platinum Credits with real money and spend them on taunts and skins. According to the developer, it is only about cosmetic upgrades.
“We know what you’re thinking,” 2K Games wrote. It refers to the negative feelings that many gamers have about microtransactions. “Don’t worry,” the publisher adds. The update introducing the in-game currency only adds the ability for players to purchase new skins and taunts for their characters, these cosmetic expansions do not provide any gameplay advantage.
It is not possible to obtain the upgrades without paying. The arrival of microtransactions was previously announced by Gearbox and will be introduced on Thursday. A skin costs 420 Platinum, for a taunt you have to pay 230 Platinum. A variety of Platinum Packs are available for purchase, starting from 230 Platinum for $1.99, up to 9300 Platinum for $49.99.
The credits can be purchased through the PlayStation Network, Xbox Store or Steam Wallet and can be spent on the game’s marketplace. The publisher emphasizes that Battleborn will receive free new content in the future, including five new heroes, competitive multiplayer maps and new game modes. This content will be available in ‘the next few months’.
