Garmin releases Enduro sports watches with transparent solar panel
Garmin releases a new series of sports watches aimed at endurance athletes. The Enduro models are light and equipped with a Power Lens, with which the watches charge with solar energy. Furthermore, the Enduro series has new trail running features.
The Garmin Enduro watches have a Power Lens that Garmin has previously applied to other models, such as the fēnix 6X Pro Solar and Solar Editions of various watches. This is a transparent solar panel that is incorporated into the glass of the watch. Thus, the watch can be charged with solar energy during use. Garmin claims that this can extend the battery life of the Enduro watches to 65 days in smartwatch mode. The manufacturer bases that figure on users who wear the watch all day and are outside for three hours a day in conditions with 50,000 lux. That corresponds to a sunny day.
On a battery charge, the Enduro watches last up to eighty hours in a GPS mode. Navigation is continuously active. According to Garmin, the Enduro watches have the longest battery life of its entire range.
The watches also have custom software for endurance athletes, including a function to calculate VO2 max for trail running activities. The ClimbPro Trail feature provides real-time information about climbs and sections where athletes are located. This includes details such as slope, distance and height gain.
The watches have dimensions of 51x51x14.9mm and are equipped with a transreflective 1.4″ LCD with a resolution of 280×280 pixels. Garmin sells the Enduro models for prices from 800 euros. For that amount, buyers get a stainless steel version that contains 72 grams A Carbon Gray DLC Titanium version costs 900 euros and weighs 58 grams.
