Gaming hardware company Mad Catz files for bankruptcy

The American company Mad Catz, mainly known for its gaming hardware, has filed for bankruptcy. The company was looking for alternative options, but ultimately chose this solution.

For example, the company states in a message that it has still been investigated whether a sale of the company was possible, but that no parties were interested in this. The lenders of Mad Catz would also have turned off the tap. The company had not been doing well for some time, Mad Catz laid off more than a third of its staff about a year ago.

Several board members of the company also left at the time. According to Mad Catz, the reorganization was mainly the result of disappointing results from the game Rock Band 4, for which it supplied various controllers. Shortly after, Harmonix, the company behind the game, chose a different supplier for the peripherals.

Founded in 1989, Mad Catz is known for its RAT mice and line of gaming keyboards in addition to Rock Band controllers, in addition to an audio division called Tritton. In 2013, it announced an Android console called Mojo, and in 2016 Logitech acquired flight stick maker Saitek from Mad Catz.
