Gaming forum ResetEra has been acquired by Moba Network. According to the current owners, nothing changes in terms of moderation and the rules on the forum. The founder retires, but stays on as an advisor.

ResetEra has been completely taken over by the Swedish Moba Network, writes owner and founder Cerium. He says he wants to stop being the sole owner of ResetEra because it is too heavy. He cites personal health problems as a major reason for quitting. ResetEra was founded four years ago. Cerium has always been the sole owner of the platform. An acquisition amount has not been disclosed.

The platform will be owned by the Swedish Moba, which has several gaming and e-sports communities in its portfolio. Despite the takeover, little will change, according to Cerium. “Moba is good at buying up sites and then giving them the tools to make them successful without encroaching on how they operate,” he writes. According to Cerium, the new owners have “no interest whatsoever in changing the community or culture on ResetEra.” Moba Network would mainly handle the business and logistics aspects of management.

The moderators of the forum remain independent, Cerium emphasizes. “That independence remains absolutely sacred, in the same way that editorial independence is in journalistic publications.” Cerium does emphasize that moderators continue to do their work voluntarily and are not paid for their work. Cerium says he’s willing to stay on as an advisor if the new owners or employees ask.
