The German game fair gamescom 2021 will only take place digitally in August. In March, the organization said it still had plans for a partly physical exhibition. After discussions with partners and exhibitors, a completely digital event has now been chosen.

The organization says that it is still difficult for many parties to participate in a physical event. The organization also states that health safety concerns are removed by opting for a digital exchange.

In March, the organization presented plans for a gamescom in August with a select number of visitors and the opportunity for company representatives to come together. The intention was to make agreements about this with the German government.

Last year, gamescom also went digital only. The organization says it will renew the digital edition this year with ‘various innovations’. The digital event is free to attend and follow via live streams. The kickoff will be with Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, on August 25.
