Game journalist Geoff Keighley comes with a four-month online game festival

Geoff Keighley, gaming journalist and organizer of The Game Awards, has announced a new event called Summer Game Fest. The four-month online event will feature news, in-game events and free-to-play content.

Joining the event are 2K, Activision, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Blizzard, Bungie, CD Projekt Red, Digital Extremes, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Private Division, Riot Games, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Valve, Square Enix, and Warner Bros. Each publisher will organize its own digital event as part of Summer Games Fest, but the schedule for this is not yet known. You can subscribe to updates via email on the event site. What is certain is that Valve will be holding the Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition from June 9 to 14. That was already known, but is therefore part of Summer Game Fest. That includes “playable, limited-time demonstrations and trials of select game content.” Such an event is also coming to Xbox and ‘other platforms’. Event programming will take place on Facebook, Mixer, Twitch, Twitter, YouTube and other major undisclosed platforms.

The event is a response to the novel coronavirus and the many cancellations of physical gaming events such as E3 and Gamescom. These events are used by publishers as an opportunity to reveal new games or show more of games already announced. Although the events are cancelled, development on those games is still largely underway, albeit with a delay. It’s to be expected that major announcements that would normally be made at E3 are now happening somewhere at this festival.
