Game Freak wants to enable porting older Pokémon to upcoming Switch RPG
Game Freak wants players to be able to transfer Pokémon from the Nintendo 3DS games to the Pokémon RPG that comes out in 2019 for Nintendo Switch. It is not yet known which application or method will make this possible.
In an interview, GameSpot asks Pokémon creator Junichi Masuda if players can use their Pokémon from the 3DS games in the Switch RPG. He replies that Game Freak wants to make that possible and that the developer is considering the options.
Masuda mentions that Game Freak has been thinking about functionality between the previous and new games since the introduction of Pokémon Bank. At Pokémon Bank, players can upload the monsters from their Nintendo DS and 3DS games to an external repository and transfer them back to another Pokémon 3DS game.
Because little is known about the method of transferring, it is not certain whether the Pokémon from Pokémon Go and the upcoming Let’s Go games can also be uploaded to the RPG. During E3 2017, Nintendo announced that the new iteration of the main series will be released in 2019. according to a message on Pokémon’s Twitter page the game will be released in the second half of that year.
