Valve has several games in development that will actually get an announcement. That is what Valve CEO Gabe Newell promises in an interview. He did not give details about the upcoming games.

Newell made his statements to 1 News in New Zealand, where he is staying during the corona pandemic. “We definitely have new games in development that we’re going to announce. It’s fun to release games,” said the Valve CEO. According to him, it was great to release the VR game Half-Life: Alyx and to be working on a single player game. That release would have created momentum within the company to do that more.

The CEO did not provide any details, nor did he answer questions about a Valve project called Citadel, which is rumored to be. “We use multiple code names. Are you referring to a code name?” was the answer.

Valve announced last year that it had previously had Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 in development, but that they had been scrapped. Earlier that year, the company already announced that it would no longer be working on a Left 4 Dead game. The company’s last game was Half-Life: Alyx, which was announced in November 2019 and released in March 2020.

For a long time it was a question of whether Valve was going to announce new major games. The last major release was Dota 2 from 2013. Between the last expansion of Half-Life 2, in 2007, and Half-Life: Alyx, there were thirteen years. Valve previously hinted at seeing Half-Life: Alyx as a “return to the franchise.”
