G.Skill introduces fast Ripjaws DDR4 modules for laptops
G.Skill has presented ddr4-so-dimms in the Ripjaws series. The modules have a speed of 2133MHz, but at higher timings this can be increased to 2800MHz. There are modules of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.
According to G.Skill, the fast memory modules are made from hand-picked components, which should guarantee maximum performance and durability. The new Ripjaws modules with ddr4-so-dimm format can automatically overclock themselves in ‘qualified systems’. It is not clear which systems these are; the compact so-dimms are used in laptops and on mini-itx motherboards.
At cl timings of 15-15-15-36, the 1.2v modules run at 2133MHz. That can be bumped up to a maximum of 2800MHz with timings of 18-18-18-43. In addition to separate modules from 4GB to 16GB, there are kits on the market up to a maximum of 64GB. It is not yet clear when the fast laptop memory will appear, and G.Skill has not yet announced recommended prices.
