G.Skill has announced a PCI-e SSD that could achieve sequential read speeds of up to 1900MB/s. The sequential write speeds of the Phoenix Blade SSDs are said to peak at 1050MB/s. The high speeds would be possible thanks to four controllers on the plug-in card.

The high read and write speeds are claimed for a 480GB version of the Phoenix Blade SSD. It is unclear whether G.Skill will also release ssd plug-in cards with other storage capacities. In addition to sequential read and write speeds of 1900MB/s and 1050MB/s, random 4k reads could achieve 90,000 iops. With 4k writes, the number of iops would even reach 245,000.

According to G.Skill, the high speeds are not only possible through the pci-e x8 interface, but also by placing four SandForce SF-2281 controllers on the card in a raid configuration, in combination with an assembly of 480GB of mlc flash chips, with each controller driving 120GB. Furthermore, the company claims that data on the SSD is safe due to the implementation of BCH-ecc error correction with a maximum of 55 parity bits per sector.

Apart from the high speeds that G.Skill claims, the Phoenix Blade SSD with dimensions of 170x70x21mm can be called quite hefty. Consumption is also relatively high; consumption peaks at 15W for reads and 18W for writes. In idle mode, 8W is consumed.

In the US, the PCI-e SSD will be priced at $699, which is just over 550 euros. The SSD would be available from next week. Nothing is known about an introduction in Europe yet.
