F(x)tec replaces Snapdragon 835-soc in Pro1 X smartphone with Snapdragon 662
The British F(x)tec has decided to replace the soc in its Pro1 X smartphone. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 appears to be no longer available and now users get the phone with a Snapdragon 662 soc.
F(x)tec says in an update on the Indiegogo page that it can no longer get the Snapdragon 835 and therefore had to switch to a new soc. That new soc has become a Snapdragon 662 from the same Qualcomm. According to the manufacturer, the computing power of that soc is less, but the support is longer.
Newer socs in Qualcomm’s 800 series have 5G support, and redesigning the device to integrate that would take much longer. Moreover, the recent high-end socs according to F(x)tec are only available to large companies and not to small manufacturers. The Snapdragon 662 is widely available and the redesign is much easier.
The Pro1 X smartphone has already been sent out to early backers with Snapdragon 835, but subsequent copies will get the newer soc. The company introduced the smartphone two years ago. The Indiegogo campaign has 1520 backers who put together a total of more than 860,000 euros to get their hands on the Android smartphone. The version with Snapdragon 662 should be released in August.
