Futuremark has changed its name to UL and the website will be redirected to benchmarks.UL.com. The move follows four years after the acquisition of the Finnish Futuremark by the American UL.

The name change will not affect the benchmarks, which UL continues to offer under the names 3DMark, PCMark and VRMark, for example. Also, users can continue to upload their benchmark results to 3dmark.com. However, all references to Futuremark will disappear and links to futuremark.com will be redirected to pages on benchmarks.ul.com. The transition is to take place on April 23.

Futuremark was founded in Espoo in Finland in 1997 by members of the demo scene group Future Crew, then under the name MadOnion. The goal was to provide benchmarks for PCs, of which 3DMark became the best known. In 2002, the company continued as Futuremark Corporation.

In 2014, UL, which stands for Underwriters Laboratories, acquired Futuremark. UL is an American company that was founded in 1894 and has more than ten thousand employees in more than 40 countries. The company specializes in certifying products based on safety. This makes it comparable to the German TÜV.
