Futuremark adapts company name to UL
Futuremark has changed its name to UL and the website gets a redirect to benchmarks.UL.com. The step follows four years after the takeover of Finnish Futuremark by the American UL
Futuremark was founded in 1997 in Finnish Espoo by members of the demoscen group Future Crew, then under the name MadOnion. The goal was to offer benchmarks for PCs, of which 3DMark became the best known. In 2002, the company continued as Futuremark Corporation.
In 2014, UL took which stands for Underwriters Laboratories, Futuremark. UL is an American company that was founded in 1894 and has more than ten thousand employees in more than 40 countries. The company specializes in certifying products based on safety. This is comparable to the German TÜV.
