Fujifilm X-Pro3 camera with ‘hidden’ LCD and hybrid viewfinder costs 1899 euros
Fujifilm has announced the X-Pro3. Like the two predecessors, this is a system camera with a hybrid viewfinder, which can display both an optical and a digital image. The LCD on the back of the camera is only visible when unfolded. The camera costs 1,899 euros.
By hiding the LCD on the back of the Fujifilm X-Pro3, the manufacturer seems to want to induce photographers to make more use of the viewfinder. A small LCD has been added on which settings can be seen without unfolding the large screen. Fujifilm designed that little square screen so that it looks like the window on the back of an analog camera.
Like the 2016 Fujifilm X-Pro2, the new model has a hybrid viewfinder. It can provide both electronic and optical images. A switch allows users to switch between digital and optical display. The electronic viewfinder now has an OLED panel with 3.69 million pixels. With the predecessor, that was a screen with 2.36 million pixels. It is probably a resolution of 1280×1024 pixels; that was 1024×768 pixels with the predecessor.
When using the optical viewfinder mode, users do not look through the lens, but directly ‘outside’. Lines in the image indicate what will be in the picture, depending on the focal length chosen. The image itself represents more than what is ultimately captured. This makes the concept comparable to a rangefinder camera. However, it is not possible to focus visually with the optical image. Users must rely on autofocus, or the focus indicator when using manual focus.
The optical part of the viewfinder in the X-Pro3 has a fixed magnification of 0.52x. With the X-Pro2, you could choose between 0.36x and 0.60x, to adjust the optical viewfinder to wide-angle or telephoto. In the X-Pro3, that choice is not there. The viewfinder can display image lines for focal lengths from 23mm to 90mm.
Internally, the camera is largely the same as the Fujifilm X-T3. The X-Pro3 uses the same aps-c sized X-Trans sensor with a 26-megapixel resolution. Also, the hybrid autofocus system is the same. The X-Pro3 films in 4k resolution with a maximum of 30fps. The device has two SD card slots with support for UHS-II cards. The X-Pro3 also has a USB-c 3.1 connection that can be used to charge the camera.
Fujifilm releases the X-Pro3 with different finishes. The regular black version costs 1,899 euros and will be available at the end of November. Variants with a Duratect coating in black or silver cost 2099 euros and are on sale in mid-December.
